Action Research Project

My ARP keeps me awake at night. I am fearful that it won't be done on time and it won't be any good. I am trying to stay positive but am having a hard time with that. I keep doing my research and am trying to keep up with my class and writing and everything else. I think my topic is not a good one. I should have kept it much more simple. However, I am seeing that I have chosen something valuable because every class has underachievers and there is so muc written about it that I must not be the first one interested in it. It would be more interesting if I worked with teenagers. That is where underachievement is much more prevalent, although my third graders have their underachieving days as well!

I can totally relate to you this week. I am so overwhelmed. I feel like there is not enough time in the day to get everything done. I just want to encourage you that you can do it. The research will help you finalize your project. I recognize that it is a lot of work but it will be worthwhile in the end. Just take it one day at a time. Don't look at the end find baby steps that are going to take you to the end. Keep up the good work!!!

Kris be steadfast. You will complete your research and your project will be great. I think that underachieving is just as prevalent in 3rd grade as it is in high schoolers it just looks different. I think third graders may be less pressured in terms of success that high schoolers, but I know many third and fourth graders who don't give 100 percent of their best.

I agree with Monica. There are underachievers throughout the grade levels and addressing it early, rather than late seems essential to success. I teach 3rd-5th this year and have some classic underachievers in my class. It bothers me when they are very capable but seemingly choose not to do the work. I'm interested to see what you learn and how I can apply it in my classroom.

Monica, Steadfast! I like that word. I am going to be steadfast. I am going to use that word with my kids this week. Thanks.

Kris, No!!! Don't say your topic is not a good one. I think what you are going through is a natural part of the process. There are some nights when I wake up every hour on the hour thinking about my proposal or my chapter one. I changed my APR in September of 2008!!! My Lit Review is just beginning---I, too, am a mess. We will prevail. We are doing this for the right reason! We want to enrich the lives and learning experiences of our students, right? Yes! Stop beating yourself up and as Monica encouraged you to do, BE STEADFAST! Your topic is certainly an important one! ~Theresa
